The bandstand has become one of the ornamental elements of our parks and open spaces, a symbol of closely-knit communities from a bygone era.
Over the course of this project I had taken a pilgrimage across County Durham to document those that have survived to the present day. This project coincided with and commissioned by BRASS, a festival that brings people together for a celebration of music and cultural roots. In placing these images across the city my ambition was to invite reflection on and stimulate discussion around the role of cultural traditions within the evolving life of our communities.
Coinciding with the installations I created a website for the project. The images were displayed with QR Codes for the public to interact and view more information about the bandstand in the image as well as the local history of the sites.
