I was invited to revisit the Bandstand project I created for Durham International Brass Festival in 2015. I reviewed the images that I had originally captured for the project in 2015, I used the same images with the inclusion of some images that upon review didn't quite make the cut the first time.
The project proposal was to install a series of posters around County Durham on the adshell of bus shelters to bring attention back to the heritage of the region. To emphasise the message of this heritage gradually slipping out of the collective memory the posters displayed the text, 'There were 18 bandstands in County Durham. 5 remain'
A poignant and even comical address of this loss of heritage can be viewed in the images with the shelter and the askew wire fence on Spennymoor High Street. The bus shelter displays the image of the Bandstand that once stood proud in the centre of the shopping precinct. The wire fence is to protect the public while the demolition and 'revitalisation' is completed.
